in all things, settle for the best
Want to start a company? Trust me, do not start until you have a great cofounder! Someone you can work with smoothly and trust their judgement. A person you can solve problems in the company with amicably. And someone who can communicate effectively. Also a person who works hard. Also someone with integrity, Naval calls this playing the long-term game.
This is probably the reason why making a great product is so tough for a neophyte. Because great products have great teams behind them. And for a newcomer, there is just a lot of experience and connections you lack. You need to know the right people to work with and unfortunately if you are just starting out, you have to sift out a lot of chaff to find the gems. Only work with high value people.
This is a message to myself and you.
